Monmouth Beach was incorporated in 1906 and covers just over a square mile of land between the Atlantic and the Shrewsbury River. It grew after the railroad arrived, and many early residents were fishermen. Today it is known for Victorian houses as well as newer multimillion-dollar homes, and several homes were damaged during Hurricane Sandy. Little Silver, settled by the Parker family in 1667 and incorporated in 1923, was once farms, woods and salt marsh. The 1725 Parker Homestead and the 1890 train station still stand. Sea Bright lies on the narrow strip of land just north, between the ocean and the river.
